Hi all,

As some of you will be aware, I have been working on the new Scaffold Apprenticeship scheme for several years now. Finally, after a lot of hard work and long hours spent by a small number of dedicated people, we finally achieved our goal at the end of 2020.

I am proud to say that we now have a two-year Scaffold Apprenticeship scheme in Ireland. It will at last recognise the high level of skill and effort that the Scaffolders deserve.

A new purpose-built Scaffold Training Centre is almost complete on the grounds of the existing Construction College in Mount Lucas in Co Offaly. The Scheme will be administered by Laois-Offaly ETB.

Two Scaffold Instructors have been employed by LOETB and I am happy to say that I am one of them. Hence the purpose of this notice. My company SOS Training will no longer carry out the current CSCS scaffold courses. The current courses will continue for up to two years until the first batch of Apprentices have qualified and then they will be stopped.

While I will no longer carry out the CSCS courses, I will have a limited amount of time to continue to offer advice, consultancy or scaffold Inspections to my regular and loyal clients.

Finally, a huge thank you to all my scaffolding colleagues who have stood with me on getting this scheme up and running. A huge thank you also to all my loyal clients who have sent their employees to me over the years and to all the candidates who have come through my door to be trained. It has been my great pleasure to work with you all.

I am looking forward to this new and final chapter in my training career and to the long overdue recognition that we scaffolders deserve. I will continue to raise the bar for our occupation in the coming years and I look forward to joining some of you ‘at the bar’ when this COVID-19 Virus is suppressed.

This website will tell you about Larry Henry’s training company which is called SOS Training Ltd.  SOS (Safety on Scaffolding) is a Meath based company which Larry originally set up in 2004.  SOS Training delivers a complete scaffold package covering all aspects of this vital part of the construction industry. They run training courses starting with the one or two day “Introduction to Scaffolding” right through to the “Advanced Scaffold” course.
